Martenici / "Мартеници" in Bulgarian/

Making martenici is a lovely ancient Bulgarian tradition.
It is white and red yarn to give, wear and hang on a tree when spring comes. We welcome March with martenici and many Bulgarians make their own, though are have lots and lots of mass produced available too. But it is not traditional, or touching to give a mass produced martenica, or one made in China... so I will tell you something about how we make them.

I have the yarn! It is supposed to be all wool, but I was no able to find some good pure white and red wool, when I rushed to the local yarn shop last Friday... at it was raining cats and dogs...
So I bought some acrylic instead and we started the martenici making... I will show them soon ;)
